Active Even on Vacation, Unforgettable Views
For mountain and trekking enthusiasts, there is the opportunity to ascend Gunung Batur — the island’s most beautiful and second-highest active volcano (1,717 meters).
Shortly after midnight, you’ll depart by bus from the Relax Bali resort. After approximately a 1.5-hour drive inland, you’ll begin a night trek through the jungle, guided only by a flashlight and a mountain guide, to places believed by Balinese tradition to be the dwelling of gods.
You’ll walk through the refreshing night air along paths of weathered lava toward the summit. After about two hours of climbing, you will be rewarded with the breathtaking sight of the orange tropical sunrise over Gunung Rinjani — the highest volcano on Lombok — and a hearty breakfast at the crater’s edge featuring hot Balinese coffee or Javanese tea.
After sufficient rest and nourishment, you’ll continue your hike at the most beautiful dawn toward the smoking crater of Batur, where one of Bali’s most photogenic views awaits — the lunar landscape of Mount Batur shrouded in morning mist. A fascinating local feature aisthe thermal vents where you can cook eggs in the heat and enjoy a freshly boiled breakfast within minutes. After ample time to admire the panoramic views from the volcano and its surroundings, we will begin our descent.
The trip can conclude with a visit to the thermal baths on the volcano’s slopes, where you can relax your muscles and unwind in natural hot pools after the trek.
